Teachers Raise Serious Concerns Over Unresponsive IT Department at Ministry of Education
Suva, Fiji – Frustration is mounting among teachers across Fiji as they struggle to get any form of assistance from the Ministry of Education’s IT Department. Educators, particularly those based on the islands, have voiced their concerns after repeated attempts to contact the department have gone unanswered.
One teacher shared the struggle of spending $20 worth of phone credit trying to reach the IT Department throughout the week, only to be met with silence. “I kept calling until my credit completely ran out. When someone finally answered, there was no apology or sense of urgency to help,” the teacher said.

Attempts to contact the department head, Mr. Sandeep, have also proven futile, with suspicions that some numbers may have been blocked. Even after requesting a call-back from a staff member who briefly answered, no follow-up was made. Instead, teachers were dismissively asked if they had emailed the department—despite having done so with no response.
“This is not just an inconvenience; it’s affecting our ability to perform essential duties,” another teacher explained. “We’ve done everything we’re supposed to do, but without proper support from the IT Department, our work is at a standstill.”

Teachers are now urgently calling on the Ministry of Education to address this issue, urging the IT Department to be more responsive and show basic professional courtesy. The lack of support is not just frustrating—it’s impacting the education system’s efficiency, particularly in remote areas where communication is already a challenge.
As the new school year progresses, educators hope their concerns will be met with immediate action from the Ministry.
